Rochelle wins back to back at Woodburn Dragstrip! Top
  September 6th is the Woodburn Dragstrip Modern Plumbing Jr. Nationals and the Don Rhyne Classic NHRA JRDL Gold Crown Finals. On Saturday Rochelle qualifies 6th out of 31 cars in the 13-17 year old class with a .003 RT (reaction time). Round one Rochelle wins running 8.021 on the 7.97 dial. Round two win running 7.946 on the 8.01 dial in a double break out. Round three win light when her dragster runs 7.995 on the 7.95 dial. Round four Rochelle takes the win and the best package when she runs 8.007 on the 8.00 dial and a .002 RT. Round five semi finals Rochelle has the single into the finals. Final round Rochelle dials a 7.96 and runs 7.957 and earns the WIN in a double break out when she takes the strip and breaks out by less than her division 7 opponent. (You know Rochelle cannot let a Division Seven racer win at her home track).



September 7th Woodburn Dragstrip Jr. Drag Racing Series. Rochelle qualifies 7th out of 25 cars in the Junior Fast Class with a .015 RT. Round one Rochelle wins running 7.987 on the 7.98 dial. Round two win as Rochelle runs 7.998 on her 7.97 dial. Round three win running 8.031 on the 7.99 dial and onto the semi finals. Round four Rochelle wins running 8.036 on her 7.96 dial. Round five FINAL ROUND Rochelle has a .010 RT and runs 7.955 on the 7.96 dial while the opponent goes red and the WIN light goes on for Rochelle! This moves Rochelle into 2nd place in the points chase at Woodburn dragstrip and two points races to go.

August 27th-31st is the NHRA Division Six Finals at Firebird Raceway, Boise Idaho. Rochelle is representing team Champion (Medford) in the Junior Lightning class while Ron is racing for team Woodburn in the Super Pro class. After tech inspection of the cars there is a test and tune session on Thursday. Friday is more testing, a gamblers race and best package competition. Saturday is race day for Rochelle. Rochelle does well in qualifying with a .023 and a .001 R.T. Rochelle wins the first round Running 8.108 on her 8.04 dial. In round two the win light comes on when Rochelle runs an 8.047 on her 8.06 dial in a double break out. Round three (quarter finals) Rochelle dials an 8.06 and runs an 8.059 breaking out by one thousandth of a second. Rochelle finishes in the top six this year in the Division Six Finals. Qualifying continues Saturday for Ron and another best package competition. Ron Wins the best package when his Roadster runs a 8.717 on the 8.71 dial and a .002 R.T. Sunday is eliminations with no time runs in the morning and the wind is blowing 10-18 mph and the temperatures are 10-15 degrees cooler that the previous two days. Ron wins round one running 8.628 when the other car fouled out. Round two is a good race Ron runs 8.632 on the 8.64 dial breaking out by .008 when the other car has a .013 package and wins. The New family was a great host of this event at Firebird Raceway with over 500 racers from all around the northwest.

 
Pappel Racing Goes to the Division Six Finals in Boise Idaho! Top
  August 9th and 10th Pappel Racing runs the points chase at Champion Speedway in Medford, Oregon. Rochelle is the number one qualifier on Saturday with a stellar .004 reaction time. First round Rochelle wins running 8.022 on her 7.90 dial and a .024 RT. Semi finals the win light comes on when Rochelle’s dragster runs 7.953 on the 7.90 dial in and a .033 RT. In the final round she is too quick on the light with a -.010 second RT. A runner up finish for Rochelle and some valuable points. In Super Pro Ron runs 8.634 on the 8.62 dial in and a .044 RT and is edged out by .0021 at the finish line. Sunday Rochelle is the number one qualifier again but misses at the finish line in a break out by running 7.902 on the 7.93 dial in. Ron day ends in a similar fashion when the roadster runs 8.567 on the 8.57 dial in. A good time is had and the weather was great in the high 80’s.



August 16th is the final points race at Woodburn Dragstrip and the last chance to earn a spot on the team to race for Team Woodburn at the bracket finals. Ron goes into the race in 15th position (only the top 14 go to the finals). The .009 reaction time qualified Ron 9th for the day. In the bonus round Ron has the best package when he runs 8.540 on the 8.54 dial in and a .016 RT. (This gets him 10 bonus points). A win in round one helps when the roadster runs 8.699 on the 8.54 dial in (on the breaks) and a .029 RT. Round two the dial in is missed when the car goes a slow 8.613 on the 8.54 dial in and the .024 RT is not enough to get the win. Ron scores enough points to move up to 12th in the points chase overall.



August 17th is the Ford Fever Classic at Woodburn Dragstrip. Ron misses the number one qualifier by a hair with a .003 RT and the other racer had a .002 RT. First round win light comes on when the roadster runs an 8.543 on the 8.50 dial and a .035 RT. Round two racing ends early when Ron has a -.004 RT at the starting line. The weather was crazy on this weekend with Saturday blistering hot at over 103 degrees and Sunday humid high 70’s/80’s.

 
Rochelle is Runner Up at Woodburn and scores valuable points! Top
  August 3rd back to Woodburn Dragstrip for the Jr. Drag Racing Series and VP Championship Series. Rochelle qualifies number 3 with a 0.007 RT. Round one the win light comes on and Rochelle means business back at her home track running 7.995 on the 7.94 dial and a .021 RT. In round two Rochelle wins running 8.094 on her 7.94 dial on the breaks. In round three semi finals Rochelle wins running 7.866 when the opponent goes red. In the final round Rochelle runs 7.942 on the 7.91 dial but is defeated. Runner up for the day gives Rochelle some valuable points as she stands in 3rd for the season only 30 points behind 2nd with three races to go. Ron qualifies 12th with a 0.007 RT. The roadster has a broken rocker arm after qualifying and cannot make first round. We will get the roadster fixed up and ready for next time. This puts Ron in 14th position in the points race at Woodburn.

 
Rochelle finishes 8th finalist in Mile High Shootout at Bandimere Speedway Top
  July 21 thru 26 is the trip to Bandimere Speedway, Denver, Colorado. On the agenda is the Western Conference O’Reilly Junior Dragster Finals. Over 500 competitors compete for the prestigious Wally Trophy. Our trip starts on Wednesday July 16th as we leave Eugene. In Bend, Oregon we have alternator trouble and have to spend Thursday in Ontario, Oregon doing repairs. We finally make it to Denver Friday around 1:30 pm and are the 98th truck/trailer in line for the event. The gates open Monday morning to get in the Speedway as nearly 400 trucks are in line to get a pit location. Test and Tune is Monday, Tuesday we got a break and went to the Water Park. Wednesday is the Mile High Shoot Out. Rochelle wins the first round running 8.306 on her 8.25 dial in with a .044 RT. In round two the win light comes on when Rochelle runs an 8.475 on the breaks to her 9.32 dial in and a .033 RT. In round three Rochelle breaks out running 8.358 on her 8.39 dial in. Rochelle finishes 8th finalist making it into the trophy round for the day. Thursday is a test and tune day and Friday brings up first round of eliminations for the Finals. As the pressure mounts for all the drivers the time has come. Rochelle is defending her Championship from 2007 and her car is wearing the number 1x. The car is dialed for round one to run an 8.24. Rochelle is eliminated with a -0.027 light and here car runs 8.236. Rochelle is heart broken after the race but with hugs from Mom and Dad, a special hug from Mark the Bandimere Speedway announcer and a special hug from the NHRA official Candice she got her smile back.

  June 20th, 21st and 22nd Pappel Racing is at Champion Raceway in Medford Oregon. Rochelle races in the Junior Dragster Friday earning a single in the first round with a .008 reaction time. In the final Rochelle wins running 7.94 on the 7.90 dial. Saturday Rochelle wins the first round running 7.960 on her 7.92 dial and a .029 R.T. In round two Rochelle has a single with a run of 7.918 on her 7.90 dial and a .008 R.T. Final round Rochelle gets the win running 7.930 on the 7.92 dial. Ron races the Roadster in Super Pro winning in round one running 9.879 when the other car goes red and a R.T. of .010 gets him a single in round two. Semi Finals a number is entered in error in the Roadsters computer and the race is done. Sunday Rochelle is edged out in the semi finals running 7.941 on her 7.94 dial in with a R.T. of .077 (margin of victory is .017 seconds in the other lane). Ron is in the Super Pro class winning round one with a hole shot running 9.988 on the 9.90 dial. Round two the win light comes on when the roadster runs 9.936 on the 9.90 dial and a .003 R.T. Semi finals Ron is on a break out run running 9.87 on the 9.90 dial. Two wins and two semi finals for Pappel Racing at Champion Raceway for the weekend is not bad at all!



June 28th is the Junior Drag Racing Series at Woodburn. Rochelle qualifies number 4 with a 0.009 R.T. Round one Rochelle wins running 7.933 on the 7.90 dial and a .052 R.T. Round two racing is ended early when Rochelle’s Fast Class Junior Dragster goes .016 red.



June 29th VP Series at Woodburn. Ron runs the Roadster qualifying number 4 with a 0.001 R.T. In round one Ron runs 9.895 on the 9.90 dial and is eliminated in a breakout of 0.005 seconds at the finish line.



July 6th Woodburn Drag Strip VP Series and Jr. Drag Series. Rochelle qualifies number 7 with a .033 R.T. The win light comes on in round one running 8.035 on the 7.90 dial as she has the advantage on the starting line with a .030 R.T. Round two Rochelle’s dragster breaks out by 0.013 seconds running 7.877 on the 7.90 dial and a .003 R.T. Ron qualifies number 5 with a .003 R.T. Round one Ron and his roadster cross the finish line 0.001 seconds early running 10.029 on the 10.03 dial in.

 
Pappel Racing and the Points chase at Woodburn Dragstrip Top
  Qualifying in the Jr. Drag Racing Series and VP Championship Series is based on reaction times during time trials and you want to be .010 seconds or better to be at the top of the ladder. Qualifying in the Junior Fast class is extremely competitive with all of the experience that some of these drivers have. Many times their qualifying is tighter than in the pro classes.

May 17th and 18th is the Season Opener at Woodburn Dragstrip. Saturday opens with time trials and a Gamblers race in the afternoon. Ron Qualifies number 4 in the Super Gas class for the weekend. In round one of eliminations Ron runs a 9.918 on the 9.90 dial while the other car runs a 9.900 on the 9.900 and is eliminated for the day.

May 24th is the Big Bucks Race at Woodburn Dragstrip. Rochelle does some testing in her 7.90 Junior Dragster after returning from a trip to Washington D.C. the night before. Ron runs in the Big Bucks Race winning round one, round two, round three, round four, round five and into the semi finals. In round six Ron is squeezed out at the finish-line in a close race by less than .010 seconds.

May 25th is a Jr. Drag Racing Series and VP Championship Series Race at Woodburn. Rochelle is ready for the big Junior race. Mother nature puts a stop to the race for the day with RAIN.

May 31st the Jr. Drag Racing Series at Woodburn Dragstrip. Rochelle wins the first round running 8.000 on her 7.94 dial in on the breaks. She wins round two running 7.901 on the 7.90 dial in. In the quarter finals her dragster goes 7.955 on the 9.90 dial in on the breaks. In the semi finals Rochelle is the victim of a break out running 7.907 on the 7.92 dial in. Great Race and some valuable points for Rochelle.

June 1st VP Championship Series at Woodburn. Bad weather and rain delays hold off time trials until after 12:00 pm. High humidity and cold temperatures make tough racing for everyone. First round Ron has a -.002 RT and is eliminated from competition.

June 7th and 8th is the Wells Fargo Fire & Thunder Race at Woodburn Dragstrip. Saturday is qualifying and a Gamblers Race. Ron does well in qualifying and in the gamblers race wins round one, round two and in round three Ron wins running 9.906 on his 9.90 dial in with a .009 RT and into the semi finals. After a mistake in the computer crosstalk, the Roadster leaves the line 1.00 seconds too late and is eliminated finishing 3rd for the day. Sunday is Race Day. Round one the win light is on when Ron runs 9.916 on the 9.90 dial in and a .039 RT. In round two the Roadster spins the tires at half track and is beat running slow at 9.939 on the 9.90 dial in.

June 14th Woodburn Dragstrip Junior Drag Racing Series. Rochelle wins the first round running 7.944 on her 7.92 dial in at 82.76 miles per hour and a .036 reaction time. In the second round Rochelle is edged out by .0099 seconds at the finish line running 7.983 on the 7.94 dial in.
June 15th VP Championship Series race at Woodburn. All of Ron’s qualifying runs are good in the Roadster with a .011 RT, .008 RT, .002 RT qualifying number 6 for the day. Round one the win light comes on running 9.963 on the 9.90 dial in. Round two is a tight race and the win running 9.908 on the 9.90 dial in. In round three Ron gets the win and a spot in the semi finals running 9.917 on the 9.90 dial in. In the semi’s Ron is taken down in a tight double break out running 9.896 breaking out by .004 while the other car breaks out by only .002. Great race and points for Pappel Racing.

Rochelle gets her first win on the season in the Junior Fast Class at Woodburn Drag Strip! Top
  Drag racing this year in the Northwest has been tough with a lot of rain outs and even a bit of snow.

April 26 – 27th The Pappel Racing Family is at Woodburn Drag Strip for the Tulip Festival Drag Race. The race was cancelled due to COLD weather and SNOW. A bit of summer sunshine would be a big help.

May 3rd at Woodburn Drag Strip is the Battle of Detroit. With rain delays we made it through the qualifying sessions before the race was cancelled due to RAIN. I am getting sick of the “R” word.

May 4th Woodburn Drag Strip is the VP Fuels Championship Series. Jim runs the Vega in the Pro Class winning his first round running 11.975 on his 11.89 dial and a .058 reaction time. In the second round Jim is taken out running 11.995 on his 11.92 dial with a .065 reaction time. Ron qualifies in Super Pro at number 17 with a .009 reaction time. The Roadster wins round one running 9.919 on the 9.90 dial and a .024 R.T. Round two another win running 9.937 on the 9.90 dial and a .037 R.T. Round three the win light comes on running 9.949 on the 9.90 dial and a .007 R.T. Round four (quarter finals) the roadster comes up short when the tires spin running 9.945 on the 9.90 dial and a .009 R.T. margin of victory was 88 ten thousandths of a second, less than 4 inches. (4 inches in the wrong lane)

May 10th Woodburn Dragstrip Jr. Drag Racing Series. Qualifying is tight when Rochelle qualifies 10th with a .017 reaction time in the Junior Fast Class. When the racing begins Rochelle is strictly business. In round one Rochelle eliminates the competition by running 8.075 on the 8.02 dial in and a .026 R.T. Round two Rochelle takes her dragster to another victory running 8.046 on the 8.03 dial and a .007 R.T. Round three semi finals the win light comes on again when her dragster goes 8.066 on the 8.04 dial in and a .024 R.T. On to the finals and Rochelle makes a statement with a win running 8.074 on the 8.03 dial in and an impressive .005 reaction time.

May 11th Woodburn Dragstrip VP Fuels Championship Series. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY! Ron is running in Super Pro qualifying number 6 with a .003 reaction time. Our day ends short by .0044 seconds at the finish in the first round when Ron runs 9.938 on the 9.90 dial with a .027 R.T.
 
Jim Pappel goes three rounds in his first race of the Season Top
  Well, we have got to start our engines, but the weather is not cooperating as much as we would like it to.

March 30th Woodburn Drag Strips first VP Fuels Championship Series race is rained out. Yes we were there and ready to GO!

April 5th was the first Jr. Drag Racing Series points race at Woodburn Drag Strip. Rochelle runs great, qualifying number 3 out of 22 cars in the Fast Class with a .005 reaction time. The race gets started with the slower Junior cars running first. The weather goes bad and the race is ended while Rochelle’s car is waiting for round one in the staging lane ready to run. April 6th Winter Classic at Woodburn Drag strip is cancelled due to weather.

April 12th Woodburn Drag Strip JDRL gets underway with a late start. Rochelle qualifies number 7 with a .021 reaction time. She wins the first round running 7.946 on the 7.90 dial at 79.06 mph and a .034 reaction time. In the second round Rochelle runs 7.898 on the 7.90 dial in with a .029 reaction time (Break out by .002 seconds). Close!

April 13th Woodburn Drag Strip VP Fuels Championship Series race. Ron qualifies in Super Pro number 31 out of 58 cars with a .015 reaction time (the top 20 cars were .009 second or better, you best be on your game in this show). Round one the win light comes on in Ron’s lane running 9.912 on the 9.90 dial at 154.18 mph with a .064 reaction time. Round two win running 9.911 on the 9.90 dial at 154.13 mph. Round three win in a double breakout and into the quarter finals running 9.866 on the 9.90 dial and a .017 reaction time. In the quarter finals Ron runs 9.897 on the 9.90 dial with a .025 reaction time, breaking out by .003 seconds and Ron is out. Jim runs the Vega in the Pro class for the first race of the season. Jim wins round one running 11.921 on his 11.78 and a .052 reaction time. In round two Jim wins running 11.903 on his 11.86 dial at 114.21 mph. Round three Jim and his Vega are doing well winning with an 11.915 on the 11.90 dial in at 113.78 mph. In round four Jim and the Vega run 11.930 on the 11.90 dial at 113.49 mph but a reaction time of minus .015 takes him out with a red light. The weather was great with record high temperature for the day of 82 degrees on Saturday and beautiful on Sunday.

 
First Test N Tune Top
  With a little break in the weather it was a beautiful weekend at Woodburn Drag Strip for the first Test and Tune. The sun comes out and Rochelle unveils her new car in full color. After going through a couple soft runs in the break in process for a new engine Rochelle hits the throttle hard running 7.937 at 84.02 mph. Rochelle hits a perfect reaction time .000 on Sunday joining the “2008 Woodburn Perfect Light Club”. I think she LIKES IT!

Ron tests the Roadster in style with a new paint scheme and gets some great testing at the track.

March 14 – 16. The Pappel Racing Team is one of the center pieces at the Eugene Rod and Custom Show. Everyone enjoyed the cars and the new paint graphic designs by Full Blown Kustoms.
 
Rochelle Finished 2nd Overall Top
  Sunday September 30th is the final points race for the Jr Drag Series at Woodburn Dragstrip. Several racers showed up to protect their positions in the points race, but did not get to play. The final race of the season for the Jr Dragster drivers is cancelled due to rain. Rochelle Finished 2nd overall in the Lightning 8.90 second Class out of 31 racers. Another great accomplishment and a spectacular season for Rochelle Pappel.

Sunday October 7th is an ET bracket fun day at Woodburn Dragstrip. Rochelle gets to test in her new 7.90 second, Fast Class Junior Dragster.

Here is a sneak preview of Rochelle running the new Half Scale Dragster. The next time you see this car it will have her new paint scheme with sponsor names ready to rock and roll for the 2008 season.

The Pappel Racing Family will be at the Woodburn Dragstrip Awards Banquet on November 17, 2007 and the Division Six Awards Banquet in Seattle on December 15, 2007.
